Edmund is a registered patent agent, dealing with inventions
in the area of biotechnology, microbiology and chemistry.
Experience
Edmund’s experience lies not only in the drafting of
specifications for patent applications but also filing of
applications and prosecuting those applications to grant.
His main strength is in dealing with inventions in the specialised
fields of biotechnology, microbiology and chemistry.
Prior to joining Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva LLP, Edmund
had a substantial practice in the field of patents, trademarks,
copyright, designs, licensing, franchising and information
technology in another firm.
Edmund spent time in 2003 with a top UK patent attorney firm
where he gained invaluable experience in biotechnology patent
law from a UK and European perspective. Edmund has also prepared
for and participated in an opposition hearing at the European
Patent Office.
Since returning from his secondment, Edmund has been working
with many government-linked research institutes at A*STAR,
multinational companies and institutes of higher learning,
to protect their inventions.
Professional background
Edmund graduated from the National University of Singapore
in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology.
Edmund has obtained the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual
Property Law from the National University of Singapore and
is a member of the pioneer group of locally qualified patent
attorneys/agents. He has also been certified by the Institute
of Patent Attorneys, Australia under the South East Asian
Drafting course organised by FICPI.
