Experience
Kai Hsiang served his pupillage in Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva LLP and joined as a legal associate in 2006. He has been actively involved in various aspects of intellectual property practice, including intellectual property litigation, anti-counterfeiting, copyright licensing, patents, trade marks, and passing-off. Kai Hsiang has also advised on issues relating to data privacy and data protection.
Notable projects and clients
Kai Hsiang has been involved in a broad range of intellectual property work, including:
- Assisted in Amanresorts Limited and Another v Novelty Pte Ltd (2007) SGHC 201, the first case on well known trade marks in Singapore.
- Assisted a major Japanese consumable manufacturer in a patent infringement matter.
- Assisted a major consumer electronics company in a patent infringement matter.
- Advised a Hong Kong telecommunications company on regulatory matters.
- Advised a major pharmaceutical company on data privacy issues.
- Advised a major financial services company on data protection issues.
- Involved in drafting and reviewing various forms of intellectual property agreements including software licence agreements, services agreements and non-disclosure agreements.
- Advising on, conducting and coordinating anti-piracy operations for various IP owners in Singapore. Clients include video games software associations, mobile phone manufacturers, clothing and eyewear companies, and manufacturers of high-tech industrial tools.
- Preparation, filing and prosecution of trade mark applications as well as opposition, invalidation, rectification and revocation matters.
Professional background
Kai Hsiang graduated from the National University of Singapore with a LLB (Honours) degree in 2005. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Singapore as an Advocate and Solicitor in 2006.
Kai Hsiang serves as a member of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Society of Singapore.
