Anand Nalachandran
Anand Nalachandran heads the Dispute Resolution Group.

Experience
Anand has significant experience in general and commercial litigation, having advised on commercial contracts, employment issues, insolvency, defamation, tenancy, matrimonial proceedings as well as probate and administration.

Anand has developed a niche and specialist criminal practice, acting as Counsel in several notable and landmark cases in the Subordinate Courts as well as major and capital offences in the Supreme Court.

Anand has rendered advice on a broad spectrum of statutory regulations, including offences relating to corporate and commercial fraud, forgery and money-laundering as well as “insider trading” and “market manipulation”.

Anand has handled cases involving corruption as well as computer misuse and was appointed Lead Counsel under the Legal Assistance Scheme for Capital Offences of the Supreme Court in 2006.

Anand has conducted private prosecutions for the Energy Market Authority and has provided compliance advice to Small & Medium Enterprises and Public-Listed Companies as well as local and off-shore financial institutions.

Anand has directed internal and forensic audits to ascertain breaches of corporate protocols and legislative regulations vis-à-vis criminal proceedings and/or civil liability and is regarded as an industry specialist.

Professional profile
Anand is an elected member of the Council of the Law Society of Singapore and a member of the Complaints Committee regulating professional conduct as well as the Admissions Committee and the Criminal Practice Committee.

Anand has been appointed to the Membership & Social Committee as well as the Professional Values Chapter in the Professional Affairs Committee of the Singapore Academy of Law.

Anand is in the Ex-Co of the ASEAN Law Association (Singapore) and is a member of the Law Society’s Review Committee on Capital Punishment, the Association of Criminal Lawyers of Singapore and the Medico-Legal Society.

Professional background
Anand obtained an LLB (Honours) from the National University of Singapore and was admitted to the Bar in June 2000 as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Anand is a Tutor in the Legal Skills Programme of the Faculty of Law, NUS as well as a Trainer in the Advocacy module of the postgraduate Practical Law Course conducted by the Board of Legal Education.

Anand has contributed to pro bono initiatives of the Subordinate Courts and the Law Society, including the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme for impecunious accused persons, and also to legal awareness & outreach programmes.

Anand is the Legal Advisor to the Epilepsy Care Group (Singapore) as well as the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped and provides regular pro bono legal clinics within the community.

Anand is a regular speaker on youth crime and legal practice at schools and tertiary institutions and is often quoted by the media on industry perspectives and was featured in the Straits Times Career Guide 2006.
